Popcorn Science Fair Projects

The favoritte food of many can also teach one a lot about science.
They are yummy, yellow, buttery, sweet, crunchy, and somewhat healthy, popcorn is a staple food in the American culture. It is eaten by individuals all around the nation, and has multiple types of flavors and sizes. This fantastic and crunchy snack-time food can also be used to demonstrate various scientific theories and experiments. Popcorn science fair experiments are often times a fun and tasty way to figure out how popcorn pops, why it pops, how it pops, and what pops the best.
A specific popcorn science fair project that is quite common, yet interesting, is to see how various types of popcorns react to different types of popcorn making methods and techniques. To start off, buy as many various brands and types of popcorn you wish to observe. A very reasonable number for this experiment is anywhere between 8-10 different types. Next, try to either find or borrow multiple devices that are used to pop popcorn. Some examples are a popcorn machine, ovens, pan fry, and most commonly used the microwave. Test the various types of popcorn in each of the various methods that are used to cook popcorn. Next is to document the results that come from doing so, how many popcorn kernels ended up not popping in each of the various methods and within each of the various brands? Are some methods more efficient? If so is it due to the level of heat or how the heat is distributed? When documenting the results it is important to research why your results came out the way they did.
