What Angle of Incident Light Striking a Solar Cell Produces the Most Electricity?
Grade Level: 3 thru 7
Category: Physics
Awards Won:
Hypothesis: Solar cells facing the sun directly (at a 90 degree angle) will be the most efficient.
Primary Materials Used: Solar Cell, Multimeter, Music Stand, Source of White Light, Protractor
Details: Click Here to see the complete free science fair project "What Angle of Incident Light Striking a Solar Cell Produces the Most Electricity?" The student attached the solar cell to a music stand in order to adjust the angle at which the white light would hit it. Different angles were set, and the amount of milliwatts produced was measured with the multimeter and recorded.

Although the hypothesis was proven correct, it was amazing how little change in output there was until there was a drastic change in the angle. This is basically a simple project, but with interesting results. The project is complete and includes graphs, a research report and bibliography.
