Hypothesis:

The size of a crater formed by an object's impact will be greater when the object is bigger and faster. The size of the crater will be predictable after enough data is collected.

Details:

Different size blobs of wet plaster were dropped from different heights into wet plaster so that the object that made the crater actually became part of the crater. This was done to simulate the way real craters are made. After the plaster hardened, the size of each crater was measured.
After collecting enough data, the student was able to predict crater size with a fair amount of accuracy. This project is in a brief abstract form, but there is plenty of material here to get the idea. This is a fun and interesting project for anyone that is an astronomy buff!
